Suttle Projects are proud to have played a key role in the redevelopment of the Deep Water Berth at Portland Port, an important investment designed to support the port’s growth in cruise operations, cargo handling, and naval service provision.
This project involved the demolition of the existing pier structure, followed by piling and infilling works to create a new, larger solid quay. The upgraded berth will provide the capacity needed to accommodate larger vessels and increased traffic, reinforcing Portland Port’s position as a vital hub for both commercial and military operations.
Delivering Complex Marine Piling Solutions
Marine construction presents a unique set of challenges, from tidal working conditions to the technical demands of constructing robust structures in a harsh environment. For this project, Suttle Projects delivered the installation of sheet piling using our 50 tonne Komatsu PC490 excavator, equipped with a Movax SG75V vibratory attachment and DH25 impact hammer.
These tools allowed us to achieve accurate, efficient pile installation while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. In addition to the piling works, our team also carried out the installation of Anker Schroeder tie rods and a fabricated waler system, providing structural strength and long-term stability to the new quay wall.
