Wyke Regis Bridging Camp is used by the Ministry of Defence for amphibious training, bridge-building operations, and a variety of military boating activities. Over time, both slipways at the camp had deteriorated significantly due to weathering, wave action, and ongoing tidal erosion. This resulted in undermining at the toe of the slipways and the loss of structural integrity.
