The Hoe Stream bridge had long relied on gabion basket retaining walls for support, but progressive movement and a complete failure at the north-east corner made a permanent solution essential. Suttle Projects were engaged to replace the compromised gabions with a durable sheet-pile retaining system, delivered in a highly constrained environment. With limited access, a medium-pressure gas main beneath the working area, the need to protect the carriageway from heavy plant, and the requirement to keep disruption to the public to an absolute minimum, the project demanded a precise and carefully managed piling approach. By applying our simplified methodology and specialist in-house capabilities, we delivered the works safely and on programme despite the challenging conditions.
