Improving Site Safety: The Suttle Piling Poster Initiative

At Suttle Projects, safety is at the core of everything we do. To further strengthen our commitment to safe working practices, we have recently launched our Piling Poster Initiative, a series of large A0 site boards and A5 booklets designed to serve as both a training tool and a constant reminder for our teams and partners.

A Visual Approach to Safer Working

Piling projects involve complex processes, heavy machinery, and strict safety procedures. While training is essential, we recognised the value of providing clear, visual reminders on site to support safe behaviours day in, day out.

The new posters and booklets highlight:

  • The different types of piling used across our projects.
  • The specialist equipment required for each piling method.
  • The safe standing positions for operatives.
  • The exclusion zones that must be observed when equipment is in operation.

By displaying these materials prominently on site, and making smaller booklets available to staff, we ensure that safety guidance is visible, accessible, and easy to understand.

Trialled on HS2 – Now Expanding Across Sites

The first of these safety boards was deployed on one of our HS2 projects, where it quickly proved its worth as an effective tool for reinforcing safe working practices. Following positive feedback from our team and client, we will now be rolling out the Piling Poster Initiative across more of our sites.

Benefits for Our Teams and the Wider Industry

While primarily designed to support our own operatives, these resources also serve as a valuable reference for other contractors and partners working alongside us. By making our processes clearer, we:

  • Enhance understanding and coordination between different teams.
  • Reduce the risk of unsafe practices on site.
  • Promote a shared culture of safety and responsibility.

This collaborative approach reflects our belief that safety is not just about compliance, but about actively protecting everyone who works on or around our projects.

Investing in Training and Continuous Improvement

The Piling Poster Initiative builds on the training we already deliver to our workforce. It reinforces knowledge, reduces the risk of human error, and demonstrates our ongoing investment in continuous improvement of health and safety practices.

At Suttle Projects, we understand that safe sites are efficient sites. By empowering our teams with clear visual guidance, we ensure piling works are completed safely, reliably, and to the highest standard.
